IRAN – More than an Election

On Radio Intifada, TH 7/02/09 3-4 PDT

The demonstrations following the Iranian election were more than a reaction to the election and not simply a showing of support for Mousavi. Like the demonstrations that toppled the Shah in

1979, they included a broad cross section of Iranians throughout the country and were an

outgrowth of the evolving development of civil society.

After a brief update on Gaza, Radio Intifada will explore both the background of the demonstrations and the long term impact of this most recent resistance to the regime with guests Norma Claire Moruzzi and Ami Motevalli. We will also be discussing what Reese Erlich has called the “confusion of the left” over the events in Iran.

Co-produced and co-hosted by Sherna Berger Gluck and Hamoud Salhi

Roseanne Barr Hosts Beneath The Surface On Wednesdays at 5PM (PST) on KPFK 90.7fm LA / 98.7fm Santa Barbara

Join Roseanne Barr and Johnny Argent can now be heard on Wednesdays at 5PM PST as the two go Beneath the Surface on KPFK Radio.

Roseanne

As 2009 kicks into high gear, the Domestic Goddess will be going Beneath the Surface to broadcast on Pacifica Radio’s KPFK 90.7FM in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles, CARoseanne Barr returns to the airwaves with her partner Johnny Argent on Wednesdays at 5PM PST on fiercely independent KPFK Radio. KPFK is progressive radio for all of Southern California and can be heard at 90.7FM in Los Angeles and San Diego, 98.7FM in Santa Barbara and worldwide at http://www.KPFK.org.

Frazzled commuters and Internet junkies alike can catch Roseanne and Johnny for a series of special programming this winter and spring every Wednesday at 5PM for an hour of stimulating conversation. From politics to economics, radical ideas and beyond, no topic will be too taboo for this dynamic duo.

In a promo spot currently running on KPFK, Roseanne says, “In addition to offering insights and expert analysis on the nut jobs running things, we’ll have great guests and call-ins from KPFK listeners, who are the smartest radio audience in the world.  Of course, my slightly bitter, but right-on-the-money partner Johnny Argent will keep things rolling. We are so jazzed to be doing this radio show!”

Apparently Johnny agrees. “We’re ready to rattle some cages, step on some toes, burn some bridges and probably get audited and wind up on some FBI list,” says Argent in the same spot. Roseanne adds, “Been there, done that.”

According to the show’s Producer, Christine Blosdale, the program is expected to stir up some interest not only due to Roseanne’s famous voice, but because of her no-nonsense take on the issues as well. “Roseanne is one of those who just make an impact on you,” Blosdale said. “In the late 80s she changed television for the better by addressing subjects important to the struggling class – working families who barely earn enough to make ends meet. I think she’s perfect for KPFK and I’m really excited about having her and Johnny on the air together.”

About Roseanne Barr -- Roseanne’s creation and portrayal of "Roseanne Conner" on ABC's Roseanne has been hailed as "the most ground breaking kitchen-sink sitcom since All in the Family, (Entertainment Weekly)" adding, "She’s the funniest disturber of peace that we have."  After Roseanne finished in 1997, she portrayed The Wicked Witch of the West in the Madison Square Garden production of The Wizard of Oz. "She is a mixture of Othello and Ted Bundy. She's definitely a serial killer," said Roseanne describing her interpretation of The Witch. In the fall of 1998, she hosted her own talk show for two seasons. The Roseanne Show established itself as one of the most successful launches of a syndicated show, not only domestically, but in thirty foreign countries.

About Johnny Argent -- Musician and writer, Johnny was a composer of songs for children's reading programs and bandleader when he got together with Roseanne Barr seven years ago.  Since then, along with co-hosting on radio, they've created a DVD of original music videos for kids, co-written a well-received HBO Comedy Special "Blonde and Bitchin" and toured from Las Vegas to London with Roseanne's standup comedy show to which he contributes as a writer and musical accompanist.  They both love edgy talk radio - especially in these challenging times.
